Explore the Alpine Way this Autumn

Take the family on a road-trip and discover the splendour of the Snowy Mountains along the Kosciusko Alpine Way this Autumn. Just three hours from Sydney and two and half hours from Melbourne, the Kosciusko Alpine Way is a fully-sealed touring route extending 400km and linking Canberra to the Victorian border near Albury.

The drive offers a great opportunity for families to discover some of Australia’s rich heritage and, after the recent wet weather, the region is looking spectacularly colourful with lush green landscapes spotted with bright orange autumn leaves.

There are many other events being held throughout the autumn period ranging from writing workshops and circus shows through to markets and arts n craft showcases. These details can be found at www.visitcooma.com.au.

Some other highlights, not to be missed along the Kosciusko Alpine Way include the Snowy Hydro Information at Education Centre in Cooma and the Murray 1 Power Station near Khancoban at the Victorian border end of the drive.

The fish are biting in the famous lakes of Jindabyne and Eucumbene, and in the world-renowned Snowy River, so a fly-fishing trip with a local guide should yield some thrilling results.

For more adrenaline-charged action, ride a quad bike or a horse or go brumby-spotting at Snowy Wilderness just south of Jindabyne or rafting, mountain biking, hiking, bobsledding or rock climbing at Thredbo.

An eco-tour viewing magnificent landscapes of mountains, gorges and plains including points of interest like where the Snowy River disappears underground is an incredible life experience.

A slower place of exploration can be made through the local art galleries featuring sculpture, photography, paintings and crafts.
